Hive has been developing solar projects since 2010. In that time, we have successfully completed / sold almost 50 PV projects across the globe. We have now reached 2,025 MW of completed power! This includes all the projects that Hive has developed to RTB status, constructed with partners, or sold to other green energy businesses.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how we got to a massive 2 GW of green power:
Cuba
In Cuba we have one fully constructed and operational site, Mariel Solar. The 62 MW site is located in Havana and has been operational since January 2022. The project is a unique one for Hive as we managed the project from development through to construction, and we are now part of managing the site, which is available for investment.
New Zealand
In 2023 we announced the sale of our first project in New Zealand. The site named Lauriston is located one hour away from Christchurch. The 52 MW site is located on 93-hectares of land and once complete will hold approximately 80,000 solar panels and provide enough power for around 10,000 homes a year.
Spain
Spain is our second most successful country for solar development, after only the UK. To date we have 16 complete/sold projects in the country, ranging from 8 – 264 MW. A massive 1,144 MW of our complete pipeline is within Spain.
One of our greatest achievements in the country so far was the development of one of the largest PV projects in Spain. The Valdesolar park is located in Valdecaballeros, Badajoz, and when constructed was the latest solar energy project in the country. The 264 MW site generates enough energy to power around 153,000 homes each year. The site is a substantial 616-hectares and is comprised of 648,000 mono-crystalline panels, on single-axis tracking systems.
Türkiye
In Türkiye we sold one complete and operational site called Adiyaman. The 11 MW project was the first for us in the country. During the development process for this site, we were helped by the British Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye, who supported our business development investment.
United Kingdom
The UK is home to more than 50% of our global completed projects. We have completed or sold 29 projects across the UK, ranging from 4 – 374 MW. As well as our success with PV development in the UK, we have just announced the sale of our first BESS (battery energy storage system) project, Broxburn, in Scotland.
Cleve hill is a fantastic success for Hive in the UK. Cleve Hill solar park is a 375 MW solar and energy storage park on the north Kent coast. The project is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project and was the first of its kind to be granted development consent by the Secretary of State for Business.
