Hive Energy France
In 2021, France has reached the milestone of 11 GWp of PV capacity, another 13 GWp is forecasted to be added by 2024.
As of March 2023, France achieved a cumulative installed PV capacity of 17.15 GW. This indicates significant progress, yet highlights the challenges ahead to meet the ambitious 2030 target.
In 2022, the proportion of renewable energy in France’s gross final energy consumption was 20.7%, which is below its targeted 23% share. This makes France the only European country yet to reach its target in this area. The gap with the 2023 targets under the Multiannual Energy Programme (PPE) is substantial. For instance, France would need to add 6.4 GW of wind capacity (40% of its total cumulative capacity to date) and almost double its solar PV capacity in just three years to meet these targets.
Hive began its journey in France in 2023 with the appointment of Thomas, Country Manager France. Thomas will support Hive’s expansion to the region by developing greenfield solar PV projects to support France’s net-zero future.

Renewable Energy Goals to 2050:
- Decrease the share of nuclear energy in the energy mix to 50% by 2025
- Reduce the share of fossil fuels by 30% by 2030, measured against 2012 levels
- By 2030, France intends to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix to 32%
- Reduce overall energy consumption by 50% before 2050
