On Tuesday, 26th March 2019, HRH Prince Charles inaugurated the Solar Park we have been developing in Cuba. Construction starts this month and once built the Park will be the first utility scale Park in Cuba and the biggest Park in the Caribbean.
Cuba are trying to reduce the amount of oil they use for power and instead utilise the sunshine they get all year round. Cuba has a renewable target of 25% of overall generation by 2030. Thus, Hive Energy formed a joint venture, under the name of Mariel Solar, to build and operate 50 Megawatts of photovoltaic solar power generation in the Mariel Development Zone, Cuba.
It is expected that the Park will be completed in Q4 of 2019.
