Hive Energy has today 11 May 2015 been announced as one of the top three most successful UK owned and operated solar developers. The company was named by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) as a key contributor in helping the UK maintain its position as the solar market leader in Europe, outpacing solar giants from Germany and Italy for new builds.

League tables published by BNEF show Hive Energy’s contribution of 257MW to the grid has helped the UK maintain its position as Europe’s hottest solar market both in 2014 and in the first quarter of 2015.

Projects of 5MW-plus accredited under the Renewables Obligation represented more than 75% of new capacity in 2014, and will do so again in 2015. This contrasts with the activity in Germany and Italy, which have ended their ground-mounted phase and are now markets driven by commercial rooftop projects.

It is predicted that the UK will maintain its lead by an even greater margin in 2015, mostly driven by large ground-mounted installations in the first quarter.  Hive Energy are poised to bolster these predictions having secured planning permission for two further solar parks which will generate 15MW within the first month of Q2. The installations will be developed at Green Farm in Wix, Essex and Westfield Farm in Claughton, Lancashire before the end of 2015.

Giles Redpath, Hive Energy CEO:

“We are pleased that more than 257MW of Hive Energy developed projects have helped to place Hive into the top three British solar developers. Hive Energy will continue the trend by bringing a number of substantial projects to the market over the next ten months.

We anticipate that the new Government will recognise the importance of solar generated electricity to the UK energy mix through a solar-supportive framework across financial incentives, planning and investment in additional grid capacity. It is vital for Britain that solar energy continues to play its already highly significant part in addressing climate change, environmental rebalancing and energy security.”

Together, the top 10 developers accounted for 3.2GW at the end of Q1 2015, around 70% of the UK’s total installed utility-scale solar capacity at that point.

The league tables were published by BNEF who track clean energy data worldwide project-by-project and deal-by-deal. In Q1 2015, BNEF researchers used all public sources, including company filings and planning databases, to get as full a picture as possible, then surveyed nearly 40 project developers and owners for a full list of their projects.

About Hive Energy

Hive Energy is an entrepreneurial British company that specialises in solar energy. Founded in 2010 by Giles Redpath, Hive Energy started life installing rooftop solar on barns and farm buildings. From here, it then began creating solar parks on brownfield sites and low grade farmland, and has established a strong track-record of creating clean and renewable energy for both urban and rural users.

Hive Energy is now one of the UK’s leading developers of solar energy on commercial rooftops and solar parks. It is also a member of the Solar Trade Association and British Photovoltaic Association.

Britain gets as much as 60% of the solar energy as the Equator on average, making it a great place to harness the power of the sun. Solar panels are a reliable, silent way of making clean, home-grown energy that everyone in the UK can use.
